Speed Skiing World Cup in Salla – the world’s fastest non-motorized sport

Salla will set the stage for extreme speed as the FIS Speed Skiing World Cup arrives in February 2026. Speed skiing is the world’s fastest non-motorized sport, where athletes push the limits and even the smallest mistakes can be decisive.

Salla will host three World Cup competitions from 9 to 11 February 2026. The event begins already the previous weekend with an official training camp from 6 to 8 February, giving athletes the opportunity to test the course and fine-tune their equipment ahead of the competition days.

Around 50 elite athletes from nine different countries are expected to compete. The Salla speed skiing course is known for its demanding profile and Arctic conditions – the current course record is an impressive 170.212 km/h.

The event is free of charge and open to the public, offering a unique experience for visitors of all ages. Competitions are easy to attend even as a day trip from nearby areas – opportunities to witness speeds like this are rare in Finland.

Welcome to experience extreme speed in Salla – in the middle of Snowhere.
